Raybestos Company Overview

Raybestos is a world-renowned manufacturing company for brake parts. From 1902, it has been delivering high-quality and reliable products. Their focus is on innovation, safety, durability, and dependability. Their team of engineers analyzes, measures, and tests each product, ranging from rotors, drums, friction, calipers, hub assemblies, and hydraulics.

Thus, they aim to match or exceed the OE form, fit, and function. Raybestos are detailed-oriented at each stage in the production process. They invest in research and focus on the manufacturing and packaging stages. This is what differentiates the company from its competitors, and makes them the global leader in the automotive aftermarket.

When it comes to rotors, Raybestos offers first-to-market part numbers and industry-leading coverage. What is common to their products is the advanced technology metallurgy which provides for durability. The rotors are resistant to corrosion and can be easily installed.

Additionally, they provide brilliant vehicle stability and are validated to meet TS16949 quality system standards. The company guarantees performance with superior pedal feel, pad life, and rust protection.

The guide below provides specifications on three Raybestos Disc Brake Rotors.

Specifications

Raybestos Performance Rotors are made with application-specific enhanced iron. Due to the specificity of the materials, the specialty performance rotors suppress noise. Additionally, these products provide for quiet, vibration-free, and cool braking. The provision of a patented S-Groove slot (D640,620) depends on the application. This feature improves the pedal feel and pad life, allows for a stronger bite and smoother braking.

Unlike the above-mentioned products, the specialty performance rotors include cooling vanes that match the OE configurations. The cooling vanes additionally extend the pad life and decrease noise. Besides, they allow optimal cooling and lessen the dissolution.

The application determines the choice of fusion coating on the Raybestos Performance Rotors. All coatings provide for optimal airflow and cooling. Besides, they look highly modern and aesthetic. The first option is a coating on the rotor hat in black color.

Another possibility is the application of Grey Fusion 4.0 coating on the entire rotor. And the third one is a combination of the two colors. More specifically, black fusion coating on the rotor hat combined with the grey fusion on the remaining parts. To minimize noise and improve the responsiveness for smoother stops, the design is refined with a turned finish.

In comparison with the Element3 Coated Rotors and R-Line Rotors, the performance rotors have lower lateral runout of 0.002″ or less and a thickness variation of less than 0.0004”. These enhanced features provide for an extended pad life, lowered brake noise and pedal pulsation. Like any other Raybestos rotors, these products allow proper balance and minimized vibration.

Raybestos Rotors – FAQ/Buyer’s Guide

Do they rust?

The Element3 model is specifically designed for rust-prone areas. More specifically, the rotors feature a full Grey Fusion 4.0™ coating that delays the vehicle issues related to rust and corrosion. The Specialty Performance Rotors present the same coating, with further variations in the coloring. Yet, when it comes to the R-Line Motors, they lack this additional feature for rust protection.

Do Raybestos Brakes contain asbestos?

In the past, Raybestos was known as an asbestos brake manufacturer. However, the company stopped the production of asbestos products in the 1980s.

Where are Raybestos Brakes made?

Even though it is a domestic brand, the production of Raybestos Brakes is no longer in the United States or Canada for aftermarket consumption, but in China/Taiwan.

Conclusion

No matter which Raybestos product you choose to enhance the abilities of your vehicle, you will get a consistent, safe, and predictable product. All rotors feature tight lateral runouts and minimal thickness variation, which provides for minimized pulsation and brake noise.

The Raybestos products satisfy the SAE standards for strength and durability, thus guarantee maximum service life. Lastly, the rotors are 100% validated and mill balanced, which allows well balance and minimal vibration.

On a 2008 Lincoln MKZ that has a brake noise from the left front wheel. After having rotors turned and new pads, the noise stopped for a few months and came back as before (reason for the brake rework was the noise, no pulling or vibration). Now the noise is very loud and excessive with vibration. I have heard on other MKZ owners with the same left front wheel problem. Could a new caliper fix this on going problem? I am ready to put new rotors and pads on, is there anything I am missing?
